Understanding Type 2 Diabetes: Reversal, Control, and Remission

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), about 422 million people worldwide have diabetes, with 1.5 million deaths directly attributed to the condition each year. In the past few decades, Type 2 diabetes has seen such a drastic increase in numbers that it is now considered a global health crisis.

Conventional Type 2 diabetes treatment involves medication and lifestyle modification. While there is growing evidence suggesting that Type 2 diabetes can be reversed through comprehensive lifestyle changes, does that mean we have found a cure for Type 2 diabetes? No.

We can reverse Type 2 diabetes, but we can never cure the disease. Reversing Type 2 diabetes involves achieving healthy blood sugar levels with an active lifestyle, a healthy diet, and regular exercise without the need for any medication.

If you have Type 2 Diabetes that is under control with lifestyle modifications, your disease is not cured but is under control without the need for pharmacological intervention. This is diabetes remission.

Remission, in medical terms, refers to a period of time without signs and symptoms of a disease. It could be for months, years, or possibly for the rest of your life, but one will never be out of the woods with the possibility of recurrence.
